Before concluding our general view of the Cape, and entering upon the annals of the several towns particularly, we must advert to some general features of its history, and gather up some statistical facts of political importance, that we are sure will not be deemed irrelevant or uninteresting. An integral part of the Old Colony of Plymouth from 1637, when the first settlement of permanency on the Cape commenced, these towns and their inhabitants were, of course, for a long time under the government and jurisdiction of the Plymouth Court This state of things continued until 1692, except during the interruption by Andros, which occurred in the time of Governor Hinckley's administration.1 We 1 The Governors were: -- John Carver, 1620 to his death in 1621.
